In and around Bainbridge

Bainbridge is a lovely village to visit. Here are some ideas of things to do:

  • potter around the peaceful village with its village green, ancient village stocks and shady trees
  • walk along the River Bain - the shortest river in England - to Lake Semerwater, the largest natural lake in Yorkshire http://www.lakesemerwater.co.uk/
  • view the Archimedes’ Screw on the river Bain from the Bridge
  • sit at the park and let the children have fun on the play equipment, or use the football goals
  • walk up the Roman Road, drop down into Marsett, then over to Stalling Busk and then back to Bainbridge viewing Semer water from many angles. http://www.lakesemerwater.co.uk/
  • Hardraw Force, England’s highest single drop waterfall, 5 miles up the road http://hardrawforce.com/
  • visit Bolton Castle 9 miles down the road, it’s one of the country’s best preserved medieval castles https://www.boltoncastle.co.uk/
  • walk along the disused railway line to Askrigg and visit St Oswalds Church, then onto Mill Gill and Whitfield waterfalls.  http://www.st-oswalds.co.uk
  • Outhwaite Ropemakers based in Hawes http://www.ropemakers.com/
